Students learn to wet felt roving into a small cloth. We wring it out and cut/sew while still wet. The instructor will bring decorative beads and buttons to finish the item. Students will be handling Dawn dish soap and water. Plan to get wet or bring a plastic apron. Your feet will get wet. We make these at the Wheatland Music Festival under a big tent. It’s a wonderful gabfest and relaxing way to fondle fiber.  This is a beginner’s class. This is NOT fancy Nuno-felting. This is an introduction to the science and history of felting fiber for wearing.

We will start on a drop spindle and move on to spinning wheels.  Bring your wheel or try one of ours.  We will discuss fiber preparation (washing, teasing, carding, spinning, setting the twist, and what to do with the finished yarn).  Come and enjoy talking and learning from one another.

This workshop is for anyone who has wanted to learn to crochet.  Students will learn some beginning basic stitches that they can build on to create beautiful fabric. Students will be making a Granny stitch coaster and will get to keep their hook and left over yarn from two mini skeins.

Let's make a special decorative broom for your fall display or costume. Come and make your broom. You are encouraged to bring the following items: a stick to use as a handle, your creative ideas, and decorations to use and share.

If you bring a stick for a handle, we may decide during the workshop that it may be better suited for another purpose.

You will learn the science behind dying wool. With this class you will learn to tie-dye a pair of thick merino wool socks from our sheep. The instructor will provide everything you need to complete the project in class including a pair of socks (will contact you for size).  You will need to wear clothes and shoes that can get stained.

FAIR ISLE or two hand knitting is a true Scottish way of knitting, many other countries have also used the two-hand techniques for their patterns and motifs. Yes, two hands, 10 fingers.  you will learn the relaxing ways to hold the yarn in both hands and still keeping your yarn untangled. We will also work from a chart; this gives you a clear view of what the pattern will look like.  and we will discuss ways of keeping your place.  Bring sticky notes.  We will be making a simple headband to get you started on your way to Fair Isle.  For this class, please bring worsted weight yarn in light colors.  For homework and practice you will need to bring three colors of worsted weight yarn. Set circular needles in a size to meet gauge, probably a size 7 or 8 and a 32 to 40” very flexible cable. 

1. Cast on 40 sts 

For the Headband project you should bring worsted weight yarn in 3 different light colors, size 7 or 8 circular needle 32” to 40” with flexible cable, and stitch markers.

Cast on 80 sts, join in the round and be careful not to twist.

Make a fantasy character.  Be it Dragon, Dinosaur of bird-like.  Pick from the armatures available and let your imagination run wild.  Instructor will bring a variety of two and four legged armatures roughly covered in core wool set in a sturdy base so you can concentrate on the details.  Included will be a bunch of found objects and other mixed media stuff.

In this easy, fun class, we will learn how to make lace from the Victorian era by creating flowers and grass to use as embellishments on purses, hats, greeting cards, or whatever your creative mind can think of! Instructor will bring different color threads and enough 5-0 tatting needles with which to practice.
