United Way of Southeastern Michigan
offers New Resource to the Community!

United Way 2-1-1 is a free, 3-digit information and referral resource hotline, linking callers to more than 23,000 health and human services, as well as volunteer and donor opportunities across Southeast Michigan. By February 2007, there will be 212 active 2-1-1 systems operating in all or part of 41 states and the Districts of Columbia, reaching more than 196 million Americans, over 75% of the U.S. population.  

We cover over 1,500 different issues a person can encounter in their lifetime. We help people locate services such as: low cost health insurance, youth programs, senior services, prescription drug coverage, utility assistance, food, shelter, employment, and many other services.  Currently we service more than 4.2 million citizens throughout the Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and Washtenaw Counties.  Providing for them 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, multilingual services. 

Rather than dialing a series of 800 numbers or bouncing from agency to agency, 2-1-1 users are connected to the proper resources quickly, thanks to a team of Professional I&R specialists who assess callers’ needs, determine their options, direct them to appropriate programs and services, provide culturally appropriate support, intervene in crisis situations and advocate for the caller when necessary. 

The data gathered by 2-1-1 helps to identify gaps in services and emerging unmet needs, allowing planners and funders to better direct scarce resources.
