YWCA CAMP CAVELL PHOTOS

A Sample of our Historical Pictures...

Stay tuned as we look into our past 90 years and put together our history.  These images were donated to the Burton Historical Library by the YWCA in the 1970's.  We would like to thank the library for their diligent work over the past 6 months categorizing and processing the collection. iThey have invited us to scan and record the information. So far we have scanned and photocopied 350 pictures and hope to continue with the help of volunteers and staff. Our pictures span from 1919 to 2004! The YWCA used professional photographers form the 20's through the 60's.  There are many more group photos waiting to be scanned!

The resolution of the photos is excellent and we can zoom in and see even more detail then you can observe in the real picture!

There are over a 1,500 pictures in the collection and we have others here at camp!

If you can help identify era's, years, people or locations we would love to hear from you.

Don't forget the Camp Alumni Dogs!

The picture files include images from Camp Norcom, Camp Talahi,  and Grace Cottages, all  sites that were operated in the past by the YWCA of Metro Detroit.

We are also compiling a timeline and history!

Our volunteers are working on a Historical DVD and scrapbooks. (Click to find out about our scrapbooking days!)

Lodge

Lodge circa 1928 to present!

We are having a wonderful time comparing old to new!

Many if them give us a wonderful peek into camp life over the years.  Exercise and health were stressed.

Here we get a peek at the Wigwam at Camp Cavell. This building burnt down and now all that is left is a fireplace standing in the woods on the trail to the horses.

Little was know about Camp Talahi which was owned in the 1920's-1930's by the YWCA and is now owned by a different organization and is still in operation.

Camp uniforms worn on Sunday and special occasions help to identify the era or year.

What a treasure we have found! Read an overview of our history in camping that began in 1914...

If you have attended a YWCA (program even last year) we consider you ALUMNI!

We invite every one, Alumni & Friends to...
