Toasty Has Her Twins

Article by: Jill Laidlaw

Toasty, our mama goat form last year had twins again.  This is her third time having babies. Toasty is owned by Letha who is a past camper at Camp Cavell and  is on our Kitchen Staff.  Letha has been involved with 4H and has taught animal care at camp.  She was waiting for the babies to arrive all day.  When she went out to her barn for the last time that evening at 10:00 at night on February 24th. there they were!  When she left they were born.

Would you believe that two years ago Toasty had her babies on the exact same month and day.  You call baby goats Kids! These two little fellows are named Rosso and Oscar.  They can already walk and jump and run and play with mom.  Letha says they are hyper little fellows.

A mom goat has two halves of the udder and each half has one teat.  So they can both drink at once.  Although most goats start eating hay at 8 to 10 weeks old these guys are already nibbling on it!

Rosso and Oscar both have the same color as toasty, light brown and white.  They are a type of goat called a  Boer which is a goat usually bred for meat, but they will all be kept as pets thank goodness!

Mom and kids will spend the summer at camp so you will get to see them this summer!

Thanks so much,

Jill
